Creating positive impact in cocoa farming communities since 2015
The Cocoa Horizons Foundation was established in 2015 by Barry Callebaut with the mission to improve the livelihoods of cocoa farmers and their communities through the promotion of sustainable, entrepreneurial farming, improved productivity, and community development, which protect nature and children.
Looking back, we can celebrate some major achievements:
- Engaging farmers in the program: from 93 000 to more than 253 000 cocoa producers in 2023
- Scaling across continents: today Cocoa Horizons supports cocoa farming communities across 7 countries
- Answering the growing demand for sustainable cocoa: +260% tons of cocoa sold over the past 5 years
With the support of its partners and customers, the program has achieved tremendous impact across its three pillars.
Sharpening Cocoa Horizons looking beyond 2025
Impact
The program will continue to focus on the activities that are proven to make the biggest impact always based on past learnings, data and research.
Human Rights
The scope is extended to human rights due diligence and strengthening the community based approach to address systemic root causes of child labor.
SBTi’s alignment (Science Based Targets)
The environmental approach is reinforced with a focus on insetting via agroforestry, generating co-benefits for farmers and helping customers achieve their Net Zero ambitions.
Looking beyond 2025
New ambitions are added around a transformative cocoa farming model supporting living income, community empowerment and low carbon farming practices to support customers to reach Net Zero by 2050.
