A sustainable chocolate
factory
Sustainability is at the heart of Chocovic and represents one of our strategic pillars. Faithful to the #TwoWaySmiles commitment, we work to produce increasingly clean and sustainable chocolate in our factory in Gurb (Vic, Barcelona).
Our commitment to sustainability at Chocovic is not the result of a fad or a trend. For years, we have applied measures to reduce waste, reduce emissions and optimise energy consumption to guarantee the most sustainable production of chocolate possible in our factory in Gurb (Vic, Barcelona):
- Reduce energy intensity by 4% annually (energy consumption per kg of the final product).
- Increase energy from renewable sources by 4% annually.
- Reduce the intensity of CO2 emissions (CO2 per kg of product) by 30% by 2025 compared to 2016.
The commitment is paying off. Since 2017, we have achieved important results such as:
- Reducing our energy intensity by 12% (FY22 vs FY17).
- 76% of our energy comes from renewable sources (FY22: electricity from renewable sources, certified).
- Reducing the intensity of CO2 emissions by 86% (FY22 vs FY17).
In addition, we are also taking action to meet the Barry Callebaut Group's common goal of reducing our carbon footprint to 0 by 2025 and being a "carbon neutral" factory.
- Efficiency improvements (LED, motor efficiency improvement, etc.).
- Substitution of natural gas by heat pumps or sustainable fuels.
- Generation of renewable energy (photovoltaic or PPA).
We work so that, apart from our chocolate, the only thing our Gurb factory produces are tons of smiles.
