High Fats, Salt & Sugar (HFSS) Products
Let's start from the basics: HFSS regulation will affect products that are high in (saturated) Fats, Salt & Sugar and fall under one of the following categories (among others): chocolate & sugar confectionery, morning goods such as pastries, breakfast cereals, cakes and sweet biscuits, ice cream, pudding and dairy desserts, yogurts and milk drinks and juices with added sugars.
Whether your brand is about chocolate tablets, pralines, biscuits, pastry, snack bars or ice creams, it is likely it will be affected: according to IRI, HFSS products include 97% of UK chocolate and sweets on shelves.
What does HFSS regulation imply?
If your product is classified as HFSS one, location and volume promotional restrictions will apply. The ban includes:
- HFSS product placement in areas such as or close to the checkout area, the end-of-aisle display and the store entrance display, and "online equivalents" on retailers' websites.
- In-store volume promotions such as "multibuys" (buy 2 get 3)
